Art of Editions
SATURDAYS 10 am to 1pm

Instructors: Judilee Fitzhugh and Marilyn Zornado
In this team-taught class, students will develop a portfolio of work using natural dyes and experimental printing methods to create small editions of books, zines, and broadsides. We’ll design unique patterned papers using indigo, contact printing, hand brayering, and silkscreen, as well as creating imagery with drawing and calligraphy techniques and our own handmade natural inks.
We will further build on our papers using unconventional approaches to the press including pressure prints, wire prints, linoleum-style cutting, and solar plates. The course will also include a field trip to see artist books. This class assumes that students have some previous book arts experience. Calligraphy: Classic & Experimental - All levels

Our focus this term will be on Medieval scripts, also referred to as Blackletter. We will combine our lettering with decorated capitals, both historic and modern. Emphasis on deliberate practice
